How to Import mail and contacts from Yahoo Mail to Gmai
Importing data from one email service provider to another can be time-consuming and complicated, with lots of glitches. But it doesn’t have to be that way. If you want to switch from Yahoo Mail to Gmail and import your contacts and mailbox contents, Gmail has made this process easier than ever.
Here’s how to switch from Yahoo to Gmail:
1. Open the Gmail account andclick the gear icon placed on the top right of the page.2. After clicking on the settings button, you’ll see “settings” in the dropdown list. Click on it.
3. After that click on the “Accounts and Import” Tab.You will find it in the middle of the page.
4. Then click on “Import mail and contacts“. It will then ask you for the password; enter the password of your yahoo account.
5. Decide the import option that you want to use. You will have to chose from options; import all your contacts, and old mail, or some portion of thereof.
Only current messages will be imported from the inbox and will be automatically labeled with the name of your yahoo account.
Tips & Warnings
- After four months of an account receiving no activity, Yahoo! deactivates that account, so if you intend to keep your Yahoo! account alive for an extended period, be sure to log in every week or so.
- Check your old Yahoo! account on occasion to make sure that no one important is sending email to that address. Alert anyone who is sending mail to that account to update their address book to reflect your new address.

1. Visit Yahoo Mail and sign into your Yahoo! account. Your inbox will likely appear.
2. Find the sprocket icon on the top right side of the page, next to your name. Click it to show the menu.
3. Select "Mail Options". It should show the General options panel. If it doesnt click "General" on the left.
4. Scroll to advanced settings and set the "Switch now" button to "basic".
5. Click "OK" to the dialog box, then click "save at the top".
Refresh the page and you are again on classic yahoo :)
In IE 10, activate the Tools - "Compatibility View" Feature. I realized this was an option after visiting Yahoo Mail on an old XP Machine and seeing the Classic - a huge improvement over this new nonsense!!
